Busting myths in medieval medicine
There are so many modern perceptions of how medical arts were practiced during the Middle Ages—and there is no question some allegations have a basis in fact. At the same time, however, many modern treatments, medications, and techniques have their roots in medieval medicine. Join us to learn more about the history of healing during the Middle Ages!
Speaker Bio - Dr. Máire Johnson
Dr. Máire Johnson is an associate professor of premodern history at Emporia State University, where she has taught since 2015. Her research specialty is medieval Ireland, but she teaches everything from two moments before cosmic dust up through the Renaissance and Reformation in Europe and the world. She has been teaching in higher education for almost twenty years at institutions in the US and Canada and has given talks on a variety of premodern historical topics across the US, Canada, Ireland, and Scotland.
